wax-varnished watercolor and ink on paper handmade from shredded trash,
mounted on 12"x12"x1.5" cradled birchwood panels painted with black Flashe
I'm a guerilla papermaker. I shred my paper trash - bills, junk mail, letters, etc. - into a kitchen blender, use deckles handmade with door screen and dry the sheets on my car windows. I size the paper with glue and/or prime it with gesso. After painting, I varnish with Dorland's wax to provide some UV protection and prevent fading. The medium is experimental; any changes that might occur over time are an inherent part of the work.
