ARTIST BIO

Katie Cooper grew up in Colorado and has lived in Arizona for over 30 years, having moved to the Sonoran Desert after earning her MFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has done school and community commissions throughout Southern Arizona, been awarded multiple grants, and shows widely.

Cooper has spent much of the past decade working and traveling outside: on a solo mule ride across seven states, in a mobile art studio, camping and walking back roads. This semi-nomadic outdoor life has given rise to a deep sense of nature’s awareness that informs her current body of work: the connection between seen and unseen worlds in a reality we have forgotten we’re a part of.
